In addition to his monumental and expressive symphonies, Austrian composer Gustav Mahler left a distinguished production of lieder, songs accompanied either by piano or orchestra. Some of the principal works are the symphonic song cycle “Das Lied von der Erde” from 1909 and the collection “Des Knaben Wunderhorn” from 1900. Gustav Mahler’s compositions contain many of the characteristics typical of German late romantic music, ushering in a more modern tonal idiom. Often great and strong emotions are depicted in this music by immensely beautiful and powerful melodies and themes. With Bo Skovhus at the head of this master class, we open the doors to the third master class at the Mogens Dahl Concert Hall where old-fashioned learning from the master is the name of the game.
