In Beethoven’s compositions C minor is commonly regarded as a special key: works in this key are usually very dramatic and emotionally stormy. So is the C minor trio, which is characterized by strong contrasts in dynamics and harmonic innovations.
In the first movement Beethoven anticipates the explosive developments with its strong contrasts of dolce pianissimos and powerful fortissimos, an effect that became increasingly characteristic of Beethoven.

    InstruMental I

Markus Fagerudds Work InstruMental I (2002) handles of human privacy and a relationship between musician and instument. The performer must act as if she/he would be alone in a room, would play to her/himself and not performing. The order of the five movements is chosen by the performer. F.e. in “Dead Sequences”- movement is irrational moment, where George W. Bush and Osama bin Laden are caught in a cycle of revenge, until the player ends the game, at least for a moment…

Markus Fagerudd has studied music education in Sibelius Academy in 1982-88 and composing and theory in 1988-95. He took his masters degree in 1995. Fagerudd has composed some twenty instrumental and vocal works, and between 1981-98 he has composed music to a number of Finnish theatres, e.g. KOM-Theatre, Helsinki City Theatre, Finnish National Theatre, as well as for cinema, television and radio. Alongside with composing, Fagerudd has worked as conductor in KOM-Theatre in 1983-90, as a guest conductor in Finnish National Theatre in 1989-91, and as a composer in residence for the Lappeenranta and Vaasa City Orchestras from 1997.

    Lunch time Concert

    Boston
    United States of America

I am giving a little lunch time concert at the Auditorium, administration Building 2nd FL, Emmanuel College, Boston.

    Program:

J.S. Bach : Capriccio in B flat Major, Bwv 992, (concert arrangement by F. Busoni)
    • Arioso: Andante lusingando
    • Andante serio
    • Aria di Postiglione: Allegretto sostenuto
    • Fugue all’imitatione di posta: Allegro giocoso

    Markus Fagerudd: InstruMental 1(2002)

    F. Chopin: Andante Spianato, op.22

The baroque master Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) composed Capriccio in B minor when he was 19 years old. It is one of the most delightful works by the young compose and a rare example of program music by J.S Bach. Every movement has a title, which is creating a story within the work.

Finnish composer’s Markus Fagerudd’s InstruMental I (composed 2002) handles of human privacy and a relationship between musician and instrument. The performer must act as if she/he would be alone in a room and would play to itself. The performer chooses the order of the five movements.

Frédéric Chopin composed Andante Spianato as an introduction to a polonaise 1834 in Paris. In this concert we will only hear the first part of this work, which makes a wonderful solo. Andante is used chiefly as a direction, music should be played in a moderately slow tempo. Spianato means “even”, or “smooth”.

    I would like to thank…
Megumi Naitoh, an Associate Professor of Art at Emmanuel College, Tom Schnauber in the Music Department and ECAR (Emmanuel College Artist in Residence) artist Darien Johnson.
